I have a story to tell you. There once was a man who was clearing a field of bushes and trees. He worked hard day after day, putting the weeds, bushes and trees in a pile to be hauled off. After many months of work he came upon his last stump to pull up. He tried everything to get that stump out of the ground. He dug all around it, used an ax on the roots that he could see. He tried hooking a chain to the stump and to his tractor, nothing, it wouldn’t budge. Then he tried pulling at it with his truck, still nothing, it wouldn’t budge an inch. Day after day, month after month, he tried everything he could think of but nothing worked.

Then one morning everything changed. This day He walked out to the stump, sat down by it and stared at it. You see like that stump, which was holding on with everything it could. He had a root of bitterness and anger that was hid deep inside him about something that happen years ago. He didn’t think about it a lot but it was there, like that root holding on with everything it had, the bitterness and anger inside him was doing the same.

But this day was different. This was the day he was set free. He sat there in his field telling God all about it, how he was ready to release it and give it all to Him. The tears fell, the pain inside him was released, the difference in his spirit you could see on his face. After wiping the tears away and thanking the Lord for taking what he held onto for years away, he got up, walked over and barely kicked the stump with his boot and the stump tumbled over.

You see he finally released something he held onto for years. He gave it all to the Lord. The deep seeded root of bitterness and anger was gone. Like the root in the ground that just needed to be released from its hold, what he held onto also need to be released of the hold it had on him.

Don’t hold onto things, let go of the anger, bitterness, and other things that has rooted itself inside your heart. Give it over to the Lord and watch as your life changes in an awesome way.

Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
