Chiseled in Stone by me J.L. Russell
There once was a gentleman who every morning would wake up before dawn, get something to eat, then he would grab his tools then head out the door.
Every day he would go to a pile of stones, there were 1000’s of stones piled on top of one another. He would work all day moving many just to find the ones he wanted, they had to be just right. Toward the end of the day he may have 4 to 6 that were just what he was looking for.
He then would carry them, one after another, setting them down by the path he had started a long time ago, never stepping on the ones that he had already made into a path, he would always go to the end where he laid the last stone.
He would get on his knees, making the ground just right, then he would reach inside his coat pulling out a chisel, then used it to chisel a word onto the stone, when he was done he would lay the stone down in just the right spot, then pick the next one up, doing the same.
When he laid the last stone each day, he would never step onto the stones that were already set, he would make his way around the path, grabbing his tools, then he would head home.
Then the day came, after many years, he could no longer find the right stones to fit his path and he also could no longer think of something to chisel into the stone.
What were the words he chiseled onto the stones you ask? Here are just a few…. hate, anger, jealousy, hurt, pride, and many others.
You see the reason he would never walk on the path once the stone with the word was laid down is because he never wanted to carry that again. Once he laid it down, he wanted to keep it there, in the past.
Where is he you ask? He is with the Lord now. As the years went by he realized carrying all that around was getting him no where and he knew he needed to give them all to the Lord to carry for him. Once he did the weight he always felt upon his shoulders was lifted.
You can do the same. Make your path, write the things down that you are carrying and lay them before the Lord to carry for you, after all the Lord tells us in Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
