My best friend and sister in Christ Pat wrote this on her Facebook page back on April 30, 2013 and re-posted it today. It is so true!

She has a blog that goes by GivenThanks Ministry.

“This world is geared towards activity and noise. We are surrounded by it and we are used to it. How many times have you turned on the television even though you were not really paying attention to it? It is background noise. When is the last time that you just sat down and enjoyed total quietness? The Bible says; “in quietness and confidence shall be your strength” and it also says “be still and know that I am God.”
Activity can be a distraction that prevents us from truly listening and hearing what we NEED to hear. If you are a Christian, try being quiet before the Lord so that He can speak to you. You will be amazed at what you can hear Him say IF you are listening! He loves you and He desires to have a two-way conversation with you. We are so wrong in our ideas about prayer and what it is. We talk to God and pray for everything that we want help with and then we are on our way going about our activities. God must be so disappointed when we do all the talking and don’t allow Him the time to say what He wants to say to us. If you don’t think that God talks to people today, maybe you just haven’t been listening. Spend some time being quiet before the Lord today and every day. We are so used to noise and distractions that it may take awhile to learn to do this but commit some time to being quiet before the Lord. If you are listening, He will speak! Our growth will come not through talking to God but in listening to Him and then acting on what HE tells us!”
